Opened on 23 July, Pfizer’s new $1 billion plant in Tuas Biomedical Park covers 429,000 sq ft, producing API for its cancer, pain and antibiotic medicine.
The state-of-the-art facility, an extension of its 20-year-old site, is highly automated. Designed to facilitate the lean movement of material, reduction in lead times, process turnarounds, and the continuation of best practice in GMP, it features the central pool concept and the spine corridor connecting all the main buildings.
This project was executed entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the basis of design (BOD) stage, when project teams were working from home. Nevertheless, the design, procurement, and construction progressed and was delivered on time in Q2 2023.
Awarded by ISPE’s FOYA (Facility of the Year Award) for Operations & Project Execution, it also achieved Singapore’s Green Mark gold certification for environmental sustainability, contributing to Pfizer’s voluntary goal of net-zero standard by 2040.
